Excerpt from Next Project…

Thanks to #Bae I’ve been pressured to share a few lines from the current W.I.P. (work in progress). Here’s an unedited piece of it…

~“Come again, please,” he murmured with his chin to the floor, his eyes keenly stapled to my mouth.

Fighting for aplomb, I cleared my throat nervously and repeated, “That’ll be $5,522, sir?” My brows hiked, confused by his request.

For seconds long, no one moved, not even his entourage. Then Ezra brought his thumb up to his mouth and edged the seam of his bottom lip, contemplatively.

“Very well,” he uttered before handing me his American Express.

It felt like the span of an entire shift, ringing him up, that’s how heavy and intense his presence was. I had to continue and the only motivation keeping me moving was I knew the quicker I did, the faster he’d be gone.

I bagged the five boxes as neatly as my trembling fingers would allow and handed them over to the two men, ready to receive them. I couldn’t look at Ezra. Like an idiot, I smiled at his two associates and bade them a good night.

“Thanks for your assistance this evening, Alexis. Perhaps after this encounter you should learn the possibility of the customer being right,” Ezra warned before turning to leave the counter.

I remained fastened in place, unable to greet a nearby customer when I suddenly felt the heaviness of my bladder. Shit! I had to pee.

“Damn, was he intense or what?” I heard over my shoulder. I knew it was Anushka without turning to confirm it.

“Thanks a lot for making yourself ghost while I dealt with that impossible ass.”

“Ass? I can’t tell because of his coat,” she muttered ruminatively as we faced the leaving trio.

“Whatever, Annie. You’re no ride or die.”

“I am,” I heard the pout in her words. “He just scared the shit out of me is all. Looks like you had it all under control, though.”

I leaped to face her. “And how would your punk ass know when you were hiding in the stalls?”

Anushka recoiled. “Lexi! You know we’re dawgs.”

“Fuck you, Annie.” I did a reverse nod and began to walk off. “There’s a customer over in shoes. I gotta take a damn leak.”~

Coming this fall…

  1. Love I read a lot of books. But I must say when I’m overwhelm with so much repetition . It’s so refreshing to read a novel that takes me back. I can’t even explain. Your writing captives me, just reading the insert my knees are bouncing. Such a joy to me and I’m proud to say I’m so happy I came across your books. You hooked me , by each line……

  2. Yay! I am so excited. I feel like Ezra is a really challenging character to write about because of his counselor, preacher, teacher, and even Seer abilities. I’ve always wondered for people like that what their relationship and love journey is like because he is the person that people go to for guidance. Often times people see them as asexual (or expect them to be). People think that they have no struggles or weaknesses. They are depended on as the strong ones. So I’m excited to get to know him and see how his story plays out.

  3. Yes I can not wait to read this book. All of your books are Pure Fiyah and I can see from this excerpt this one is too…

  4. Love, this already sounds like a novel that will have us on the edge of out seats. I have a string feeling this novel is going to stretch you like never before but it will be worthwhile for you and your fans! Yay! A win-win! All the best!

  5. And so starts my obsession and stalkerish (lol) ways to see when I can read the entire story. You already have me hooked with these short few lines. I

  6. Great now I’m gone be rereading this until his book come outs….now to start stalking your fb and Instagram for more excerpts!!!! Goodluck.

  7. I already have to control my Love Belvin stalkerish tendencies…dagnabbit and now you’ve once again poked my stalker beast. I don’t even know why I clicked the link to this, well yes I do but now I’m gonna check & peek & wait for emails being all pressed and ridiculous. But the fall like forseriously like September twenty-something, so not feeling that. Okay enough with the rant, I love your characters & love the story lines; just love your stuff. I can’t wait for Ezra.

  8. Love, I love the way you write and develope your characters bringing them to life in our imagination. How many other writers plant visuals of their characters to suck you in, not many and none I can think of. You are a rare jewel. Now knowing your writing about Ezra already has me hooked. I know a man of the clothe and he is definately complex with all his sexiness in play and as a friend, I’ve experienced some of his roller coaster emotions, while projecting to the masses his calm. What a challenge, but I know you are more that up for the challenge for another fantastic story. I confess to re-reading your work, when other writers don’t measure up and a need a good read. Imma be another stalker on the list of stalkers waiting for the release date of this next project. Keep um coming!

  9. Gah! I thought this was a better way to blow up that screen pic….looks left** haha love ya Love..I’ll save the really deep notes of encouragement for the finish line…. for now.. just remember you got this!

  10. Can’t wait for this one! Love I recently discovered your writing and I am hooked!!! Being a first lady, married to someone who is very Ezra like, I’m anxious to see how you bring Ezra to life! Thanks for the teaser!

  11. I can’t wait to read your latest work. I so appreciate your attention to details that are ever so crucial when developing characters. Given those intricacies of Ezra’s ,you will most definitely be faced with challenges that range from delivering this story line with a sense of decorum to, enabling Ezra to maintain his integrity and role as a spiritual advisor/counselor.
However, given your knack to deliver I am sure that this story, (like all other)will ROCK!

    Best to you!

    • You’re absolutely right, Marla. The balance will be delicate. Ezra is a man of good character. The journey will be in exploring his flaws. One characteristic of my writing is stripping my characters emotionally and exposing their weaknesses in hopes of addressing their wounds/scars to prepare them for love.

Ezra will be no different. I just hope we can connect to his story.

Thanks for that feedback, Marla! Please keep in touch.
